Re: What I did to go green

I would love to get rid of my SUV, but we need it (sometimes).  We are a family of 3, with 3 pets as well, and we need a way to escape Hurricanes as well as travel comfortably.

I have puchased a scooter, and I'm also looking into a motorcycle since I am the primary driver of the SUV and I'm usually by myself.

The scooter gets about 100mpg, and the MC gets over 50mpg.  My Acura MDX gets about 16mpg!

My gas bill prior to the scooter was about $340/month.  Now it's about $100/month.  (I still need to fill up the MDX once a month, and the rest goes into the scoot.)

So it's not practical for us to get rid of the SUV, but that doesn't mean I have to drive it all the time! Most of my driving is around town, and easily replaced with the scooter/mc.

Since I'm not driving the MDX that much any more, when my lease is up, I will buy a less expensive vehicle that is also better on gas mileage.

Some people may think I'm "not green" but in reality, I believe "Being Green" is doing the best you can within reason.  You MUST own a vehicle in South Florida, as there is not any good mass transportation here because things are spread out.

"Something" is always better than "Nothing".  :)
