My question is in relation to manufacturing skills that have not been passed down to the current generation of younger people. It all sounds great when a politician says we need to "take back America", but what is the plan to make things happen?
In my opinion, we are not in the POSITION to take back manufacturing and "blue collar" labor from China. Do people still teach their kids to build things? To sew things? To make their own clothes? To build and fix machines? To create sheet metal? To create concrete? I don't think so.
We are a country of consumers now, and we are caught in a black hole: it's cheaper to buy from China than to create ourselves. The only thing we still produce and export is food, and for some crazy reason, we tell our farmers to "not grow too much", and we take away their ability to operate, too. Slowly we are losing our farms, too.
I'm hopeful that Obama will address these issues, but the future (without MAJOR change) is very sad. It is SO important that McCain is not elected into office. This guy is 100% behind earning a profit today at the expense of our future.
