   My New Green Machine Minimize

120 MPG!!!

Yes, this is my newest (and most fun) way of being GREEN!
I was looking for a better way to save gas, and started thinking of my moped-days back in high school. How nice it was to finally be independant of asking "mom" for a ride everywhere.  That meant so much to me back then, and I've always had fond memories of my "ped" back then...I think gas was about $0.50/gallon, so I wasn't thinking about things like gas mileage and how much money it cost to get from one place to another.

Almost 30 years later, I have done OK for myself, and find myself driving an Acura MDX.  A beautiful vehicle for sure, but with all the "stuff" added to this vehicle to make it so nice, it ended up being a 4500lb. gas cow!  At 15/20 MPG, it's been costing about $80/week to fill up just to make my 11 mile round trip drive to work each day.

As you can see, I live in Florida, and I never mind riding my bike to work during the Winter, but in the Summer with temps regularly in the mid-90's, well, nobody wants to be around a sweaty guy in an office, right?  :)  So I started thinking that maybe a scooter was the right choice for me...they are a great gas-saver, and the new ones are really sweet looking...but then I found Motorized Bicycles!  WOW!  Great prices, FANTASTIC gas mileage (I'm getting aroudn 120 mpg!), and I can pedal if I want and still get some exercise, too.

   Enough is enough! Minimize

"Drill, baby, drill"

That was the cheer that echoed through the arena at the Republican National Convention in Minnesota two weeks ago. It's still ringing in my ears.

It's the rallying cry of those who think subsidizing big polluters is more important than fixing the energy crisis. This is the environmental policy you can expect from John McCain and Sarah Palin.

Enough is enough. It's time to put the juvenile chants of Big Oil's loyalists aside and let the facts speak for themselves. But we need you at our side.

Make a contribution of $35, $50, or $75 today and help the League of Conservation Voters defeat anti-environmentalists, including John McCain and Sarah Palin, this November.

In this election, we have a can't-miss opportunity to end America's addiction to oil once and for all. But politicians like McCain and Palin threaten our path to a clean energy future, with promises to reverse all the environmental progress you and I have fought so hard for.

John McCain (lifetime LCV rating of 24%) is nowhere to be found in the fight to bring common sense to U.S. energy policy. He voted against raising fuel efficiency standards twice recently. He voted against incentives for renewable energy standards for wind and solar power. And he recently ducked two opportunities to end tax breaks for Big Oil, and one of those times we lost by just one vote.

Sarah Palin's record is no better. She has denied that global warming is "man-made." She has been one of the most vocal advocates for reckless drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Palin even sued the federal government for listing polar bears as 'threatened' under the Endangered Species Act, and has been an advocate for the deplorable practice of aerial hunting of wolves and bears.

Lorraine, if we don't get it done over the next 48 days, we're looking at four more years. Four more years of the tired old policies that brought $4 a gallon gas for you and windfall profits for Big Oil.

We must ramp up our efforts now. Will you help give us the resources we need to tell undecided voters the truth about John McCain and Sarah Palin?

Donate today so we can defeat the "drill, baby, drill" extremists and elect the environmental champions we deserve.

"Drill, baby, drill," they chanted. Isn't it time for a change?

Sincerely,

Gene Karpinski
League of Conservation Voters

   Wild Horses Roundup Minimize

Save Wild Horses

Target: Director James Caswell, Bureau of Land Management
Sponsored by: Care2.com
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has announced plans to kill America's wild horses rather than effectively manage our wild natural heritage.
BLM claims it can no longer afford to round up wild horses and confine them until it finds people to adopt them, and the agency wants to euthanize these majestic wild beauties or sell them to the highest bidder "without limitation" - meaning sell them to anyone, even if the bidder also plans to kill these horses.
Why does BLM need to round up wild horses and send them to slaughter? The BLM claims that the agency can't "allow horses to multiply unchecked on the range without causing an environmental disaster." But there are less than 30,000 wild horses on the range versus at least 3 million grazing cows. So rather than address the environmental damage caused by cattle overgrazing and expanding oil and gas exploration on our public lands, the BLM would rather placate corporate cattle ranchers who view mustangs as competition for forage, and drive wild horses - our country's symbol of freedom and independent spirit - to extinction.
This plan is simply outrageous. Stand up for our wild horses and send a comment to BLM today. Urge our government to abide by the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burro Act of 1971 and effectively manage the land to preserve wild horses rather than kill them!
